sorry - what exactly is your complaint - most mariners were illiterate - the names recorded on payrolls (which is where I think the muster roll for trafalgar came from) are a phonetic transcription of the name by a non-Manx petty officer. As you may be aware many sailors 'registered' under false names - this had the advantage that if they decided to desert they were more difficult to find and also if impressed then if pressed a second time their desertion had a better chance of going unnoticed.
