Re: William Barry
In Response To: Re: William Barry ()

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, I live in Spain and a visit to the Museum may be some time in the future. I have unearthed something that puzzles me. Elizabeth Cawley's first husband, John, attempted suicide by cutting his own throat (Manx Herald) it was said that it was due to to 'Domestic disagreements and the too frequent use of intoxicating liquors'. A few weeks later he committed suicide by strangulation. He left a considerable amount of property and money to Elizabeth. One property was the 'Old Soapery'. Elizabeth died in the The Manx Tavern, 16 Lord Street, Douglas in 1846. I think that these addresses were one and the same place. After Elizabeth's death my gg.grandad lived in 11 Church Street, Douglas, until his death in 1872. I am wondering if this address too is the same place. Any ideas how I can check this? Thanks, Diane
