Not got any further with my contact re. William Alltree LYALL - they are away on holiday at the moment.
Have you looked on genes reunited? Interestingly, there is a William Alltree Lyall registered as b. 1900 in Liverpool.There are plenty of Wm Lyall's on g.r. but since Alltree is unusual there could be connection?
