Re: Caine
In Response To: Caine ()

Hi Donna

I've found some more info from the 1901 census

My great-grandfather is listed as Radcliffe Cain, a ship's carpenter, living at 3 Factory St, Peel, aged 15, so he would have been born in 1885 or 1886. He was born in Peel.

There were six siblings living in the same house at the time - Charles (36 - listed as a mariner), Lily (25), John (20 - listed as a joiner), Frank (12), Harry (10) and Margaret (9). All were born in Peel.

Their mother Annie was 47 so would have been born in 1853 or 1854.

The census also shows Thomas Moughtin and Elizabeth Moughtin, aged 75 and 66, living at the same address. I guess they may have been Annie Cain's parents.

Radcliffe's father isn't listed - he may have been at sea, the head of the household is missing from the census.

Do you have any record of a Radcliffe Cain born in 1885 or 1886? If Karen's information is right, he could also have been William Radcliffe Cain.

Any light you can shed on this would be really helpful. In particular I'd like to find out more about my great-great grandfather, Radcliffe's father.

cheers

Julian
