Re: Maddrell
In Response To: Re: Maddrell ()

Sue and Bruce,

Thank you both very much for this information. This has proven to be incredibly fruitful. Thanks to your help I've now got Ann's parentage and have located her Maddrell siblings (William b 1813, Thomas b. 1818, James b. 1821, Margaret b. 1823, Elleanor b. 1826, Thomas b. 1830 who married Ann Kelly, Maria b. 1831, Robert b. 1833) and some of their families. We had no idea that Ann had remarried and there were half siblings to the Moore children – so thank you for finding the 3 Jelly girls. Interestingly, both Elizabeth and Charlotte married men with names that link back into the family so I'll have to investigate that further – in addition to Elizabeth marrying William Moore (son William b. 1879 Ramsey), Charlotte married William Maddrell 14 April 1881 in Braddan. I've located one child for Charlotte – Charlotte Emily Maddrell b. 27 Jan 1891 in Douglas – given the 10 year gap between marriage and child I think there will have to be some others.

Sue, I'll have to do some work on those marriages – the one that is definitely linked is Elizabeth who m Thomas Cowle is the daughter of Thomas Maddrell & Ann Kelly. I can't seem to find a link with Isabella Maddrell as yet – the 1881 census lists our James Maddrell as a retired master mariner, widowed with 2 daughters living with him - Emma Clucas aged 34 and Harriet aged 17, both born in Douglas. As yet I haven't found a Joseph or a John that would fit but I'm not ruling any of this out as yet!

Again, thank you both for all of this information. Our Moores emigrated to Australia in 1864 so from here its quite hard to access information on the family that remained in the Isle of Man so your help is very much appreciated.
