William RADCLIFFE bapt.15 Oct.1820 was the son of John RADCLIFFE [1785-1859 - will on Brian Lawson's website] “Overseer of high roads”, who marr.[1] 10 Dec.1811 Cath HOWLAND d.1823; marr. [2] 24 June 1833 Margaret COWLE / FARGHER.

William no.2, bapt. 3 April 1831, was the son of William Radcliffe 1798-1878 & Esther Killip 1801-1870.

Constance Radcliffe wrote about this family "Three of the other sons, including the fifth child, Richard, (1772-1849) were joiners by trade, and all of them lived on parts of Ballacross. If any family can ever be said to enjoy inherited skill, this family has been, and still is, endowed with a gift for working in wood. William (1798-1878), joiner and millwright, according to the Census Returns, who married Esther Killip (1801-1870), was the first to live at Cronk Glass (Green Hill) by Bayr ny H'ayrey at St. Jude's, still in the possession af the family. To distinguish him from the multitude of other William Radcliffes, he was known as Billy Dick, a patronymic which has stayed with his descendants, so that his great-grandson, who lives on the island, is known to some as Dickie Richie Richard Billy Dick."

Both Williams were descended from John Ratcliffe [d.1727 - will] and his wife Jane Teare [d.1720 - will] of the farm Belfast, in Andreas.

Margaret Killip's mother appeared to have been married to Robert Killip in 1799 as Esther Radcliffe, but entered as either Esther or Elizabeth for her children's baptisms.

Esther bapt.1 Feb.1778, the dau of John Radcliffe & Margaret BREW. Her father John RADCLIFFE bapt.11 May 1735, 2nd son of Philip Radcliffe & Margaret Brew of Ballakelly.
