Re: surname Cotteman
In Response To: Re: surname Cotteman ()

Philip Cottiman married my g-g-g-g-aunt Catherine Joughin (from Rhenab, Maughold) at Maughold in 1792. They had 9 children baptised at St. Paul's, Ramsey. The last two at Lewaigue that Brian Lawson mentions were two of these children. The family grave is at Maughold. The headstone used to be a prominent one on the left hand side of the path as you came out of the church heading towards Ramsey, but the headstone had
(?broken and) fallen over last tine I visited, in 1998. The house in Port e Vullen that Frances Coakley mentions is associated with that family. It can still be seen on the left hand side of the road as you are coming up the main road from Maughold church towards Ramsey. I am not sure whether that was the Lewaigue house mentioned in the 1871 census.

I have assumed that the line died out, but would be interested to hear if anyone knows of descendants of this family of nine.
