Can't help you with Clive, but if it turns out as Frances indicated in one letter he was the son of John McKneale of Santan, who was son of Isaac Mckneale and Mary Cannon, you are in an area of interest to me and I may be of some help. My Gr Gr Grandmother was Elizabeth McKneale and a sister to John.
