I'm all blushes - I knew she was not with her paternal grandparents, I knew that her maternal grandad was dead, I knew that searching for Charlotte directly threw up countless 'no matches', but still I failed , unacountably, to check out the remaining grandma!

Charlotte's surname is mistranscribed to Remode so when I called up all the Charlottes in the 1901 census I stopped checking when I got past the Ks (she was with the Rs on the next page!).
