LOONEY

My great grandfather was from the Isle of Man and lived in Strand Street. His father was William Looney who married a Margaret Faragher from Santon in 1818 at Kirk Braddan. My great grandfather, James Looney (b 1841) left the IOM for Whitehaven to become a Captain of a boat called the Capella. His son, also James, was sent back to the IOM in the 1890s to work in a tannery belonging to the Quakers. Does anyone have any information about where this tannery might have been? What it was called and who the family were that owmed it. We have recently been in the IOM to look this up and the Manx Library told us that the Richardson family did 'good works' and owned a tannery.
