Eric I hve found an Edward White with wife and child arriving South Australia 17 July 1847 on "British Sovereign" from London via Plymouth. Only a more detailed examination of the records might reveal whether this is your Edward. Try this website http://members.ozemail.com.au/~leadbeater/passengerlists/ which I obtained by Googling "Ship's Passengers Lists South Australia" There are quite a few more sites there but South Australia is the most difficult to get information from at a distance.
