Re: John Quayle
In Response To: John Quayle ()

Hi Donna. I know this John Quayle was married to Catherine Moore who was a sister to my gggrandmother. She died in 1914 aged 72. They married (IGI) in Mar 1866 at Malew. John "left Castletown with less than one pound in my pocket" and worked his passage to NZ in 1870. He occaisionally wrote to Catherine and sent her some money. I don't know what he did for a living. They only had 1 child, a son John William Quayle born 1866 (IGI) who was "a carver in wood and marble". In 1914 he was living at 422 L (?)Street, Bedford, Indiana, USA. He had 3 children Arthur, Henry and Helen. From a letter I think they were living in Liverpool (UK) around 1911. When young I think John William was brought up by his grandparents in Surby, Rushen IOM. I believe they were James Moore and Jane Kegg while Catherine was in service in Castletown.
I guess I would like to know if John Quayle had any other family while out in NZ and maybe find out more about the link to the States too.
That's about all I know just now. Regards, Catherine
