Quilliam/Clague

In my researches, I have satisfied myself that the IGI listing for the marriage of Thomas Clague and Elinore Gelling that took place in Braddan on February 11, 1804 refers to the marriage of my direct ancestor and that to them, were born 9 children the youngest of whom was Catherine Elinore Clague. I have this child listed in the 1841 household of her sister Charlotte Hudgeon as 10 year old "Ellen Clague" which is consistent with her December 23, 1830 christening in the parish of Santon as Catherine Elinore, Dau. of Thos Clague and Elinore Gelling. On August 14, 1850 at Malew is a marriage of a James Quilliam to Eleanor Clague listed in the IGI and confirmed by seeing microfilm of the original. The father of Eleanor is Thomas Clague, mason and this was the occupation of my Thomas Clague. James' father is listed as Robert Quilliam, farmer. The 1851 census finds the newlywed James Quilliam and Elenore in his mother's household on Malew Street in Castletown. His mother, Margaret Quilliam is listed as a 63 year old ag laborer's widow born in Castletown and James is a 20 year old Marble Mason born in Castletown but his wife Elenor is listed as 21 and born in Santon.

According to the IGI and confirmed by looking at film of the original, this couple goes on to Christen a daughter --Ellen Jane Quilliam -- at Saint Mary's, in Castletown on 24 March, 1852. But then all record of the family ceases on the Isle of Man. What we then pick up is an Ancestral File entry which places James Quilliam and "Catherine Elenor Clague" as husband and wife, the marriage AFN:45TP-HJ as having taken place "14 Aug. 1850 at Malew, Castletown, IoM" and the submitter being Warren Bruce Turner of 22 Hodges Cresent Vincent 4814, Queensland, Australia --"Address Obsolete". He then gives Ellen Jane Quiiliam's birthdate and place to James Quilliam and Catherine Elenor Clague as "circa 1852 " and goes on to list four more children to the couple. The problem is that Warren Bruce Turner attributes the parentage of Catherine Elenor Clague to Thomas Clague and Esther Caine and there is a Catherine Clague birth to a Hester Caine and Thomas Clague extracted from the Malew parish records in film 0106731 which I have not seen because I think Bruce Warren gives the wrong parentage to his Catherine Elinor Clague Quilliam. Bruce was descended from the youngest of the children he has listed as born to James Quilliam and wife Cath Elenor. This was a Catherine Quilliam born May 14, 1859 in Carleton, Victoria, Australia and who died February 20, 1920 in Melbourne (Mrs William Davis Turner).

Does anyone know Australian Quilliam descendants who might be connected to this family or how I might find further records on what became of this Australian branch of Quilliams.?
