thanks Brian - the use of the name in 1841 does surprise me as I thought the major influx of poor Irish fleeing famine was post that period - all the refs I have date post 1850 and use the name little Ireland - I should have checked Slack 'Streets of Douglas' where he notes the 1841 appearance for the area near Thornhill between Shaw's brow and Barrack St
