I have no experience of death certificates but a similar situation arose recently with births.
A friend on the Island could not obtain a birth certificate for one of her ancestors. The Registry had no record.
Using LDS microfilms in Canada I was able to give her the Volume (Malew) and page number - still no success.
Finally I photocopied the entry on the micro film and sent it to her. Have not heard anything further so I don't know if the Registrar finally found the record.
