Judith MURRAY aged 85 yrs., Maughold, buried 3 Nov 1887.

In her ‘A History of Kirk Maughold’ Constance Radcliffe wrote:
“The only child of Thomas and Margaret Quayle was another Thomas (1700-1766), who became Lockman of Maughold, and whose heiress was his youngest and only surviving child, Ann (1741-1789). At this point another Scottish name makes its appearance, when Peter Murray married the heiress in 1766. He was the first of three Peter Murrays to be at Crowcreen, and apparently took some time to settle there, as when his wife Ann died in 1789 her will contains a note that her executor, her husband Peter, had "Abjured the island", and that administration was given to their two eldest daughters, their son and heir Peter being only ten. The original Peter must have returned to Maughold, as we find that he married for the second time in 1795, and had three more children. The second Peter (1779-1843), was also married twice, to members of neighbouring families, Jane Kennish, and Judith Fargher, while the third Peter (1805-1866) married another neighbour, Judith Kerruish of Glen Vullin, a croft on the other side of the Cornaa River. Members of the family moved to Douglas about the end of the nineteenth century, and there have been no Murrays in Crow-creen for over fifty years, but the road down to Cornaa Mill and shore, a continuation of the Rhullick ny Quakeryn road, is still called Murray's road, and the point where it crosses the tramline, Murray's Crossing.”
