Hello All
I am transcribing a Will made in 1777 by my ancestor Philip Quilliam and while I understand most of it, some of the old terminology has me guessing. I have read the section on wills on this site and have learnt much there.
The words in "capitals" are the ones I'm having a problem with. Can you help?
"He bequeathed to his eldest son John Quilliam all his Estate called Carlea the same being QUARTER LAND and also left to his S'd son John all the INTACKS? belonging to the S'd TENEMENT of Carlea situate and being in the Parish of Malew as afores'd"
He also leaves to this particular son (also my ancestor) a table, a chair, a beam that is in the house and the largest beam that is in the barn, a plough and a pair of harrows. I don't really understand the relevance of the BEAMS.
At the end of the Will he states that if any of the beneficiaries have any complaints or disputes against it - they are to be cut off with sixpence legacy! a hard man. An effective way to keep the peace though.
