Re: Skillicorns / Killips & Cowins
In Response To: Skillicorns / Killips & Cowins ()

Hi
My great-great grandfather Phillip Cowin emigrated to Australia with his family, probably in the 1850's. He was born 1810, married Margaret Garrett (born 1823 Lonan Parish) 6/4/1843 and had four children, two of whom at least were born on Man: Thomas (born about 1844, baptised 30/9/1844), Catherine Jane (baptised 29/7/1849), William and Margaret.

Phillip's father was Thomas Cowin who married Margaret Karran 26/1/1806 at Lonan Parish.

Today there are many Cowins throughout Australia and my mother is one of many in Western Australia - she is the last of her many siblings and is aged 92 years. Her branch of the Cowins pioneered farming on the Willochra Plains, Hawker, South Australia before drought and the lure of gold drove them to the goldfields of WA in the 1890s They subsequently reverted to farming at Tarwonga, south-east of Perth, WA.

I am very keen to learn more of Thomas and Margaret Cowin and earlier generations. I can supply more info on Cowins in Oz.
