Re: Frederick Lamothe Gelling
In Response To: Frederick Lamothe Gelling ()

Hi David, I hope the following is of some assistance.

From Frances Coakley's site... King William College Registers, 1905

Gelling, William Edward, born Jan 31st, 1831 Left Christmas, 1847. Son of F. L. Gelling, Castletown, I.O.M. Day boy.
St. Augustine’s Coil. , Canterbury. D. 1856. P. 1859. C. at Beaver Harbour, Halifax Coy. Rector of Louisburg, Cape Breton. Rector of Guysborough N S 1865 -7’ Rector of Bridgewater N S 1871 1900 Rural Dean of Lunenburg, 1900. Bridgewater, Nova Scotia.

Gelling, George, born Nov. 3oth, 1829. Left Christmas, 1847. Son of F. L. Gelling, Castletown, I.O.M. Day boy.

Gelling, Frederick John, born Nov. 26th, 1825. Left Christmas, 1842. Son of F. L. Gelling, Castletown, I.O.M. Day boy.

The IGI gives Frederick (Lamothe) Gelling's baptism as 4 January 1797 Malew, s/o James Gelling & Sophia Lamothe.

Sophia Lamothe Gelling is mentioned in her father's will, Dominique Lamothe of Castletown, surgeon, at Frances Coakley's site at http://www.isle-of-man.com/manxnotebook/famhist/wills/1807_dl.htm And of course the Lamothe family are documented in much detail elsewhere on Frances' site, but I will leave it to you to chase that up.

James Gelling married Sophia Lamothe on 21 February 1794 at Malew.

A possible baptism for James Gelling is 28 July 1771 Malew s/o James Gelling & Cath Key
