John Gick Disappearance

My name is Ken Davies. I wonder if anyone one on the Isle of Man could help me with something. It involves something of a mystery I am working on.

For the last 3 years, I have been investigating the case of an unidentified man’s body that was found buried in a shallow grave in 1971 in Winshill near Burton Upon Trent.

It is highly likely that this person died between Spring 1969 and Summer 1970

He has never been identified in the intervening 50 years or his assailant brought to justice. He hasn’t been forgotten however, and there is a team of people trying to give this man his real identity back.

I have been producing a podcast series about the case which has become very popular around the world, and through which we have made some very significant progress.
There are now 41 episodes covering the investigation from discovering the case to now.

In the last episode – we uncovered the disappearance of a Manxman, John Gick in February 1969 in Liverpool – John Gick shared many physical similarities - age, height, build, hair colour, hair length with the body of the man found in Winshill. The time of disappearance also matches the likely date of death of the man found in Winshill.

The police have been kept informed and are looking into the case.

John Gick was a 37-year-old scoutmaster from Douglas who disappeared in Liverpool after bringing his scout troop from the Isle of Man to the Gang show in Birkenhead in early 1969, he disappeared on that trip and has never been found.

I am anxious to speak with anyone who remembers anything about that case, on the Isle of Man, or may have been in that scout troop, they are probably in their 60s now.
