Re: Hewson's Isle of Man?
In Response To: Re: Hewson's Isle of Man? ()

assuming your John R Hewson is the 17yr old ship carpenter born Ramsey at 6 Bond St in 1881 then his father was Joseph born Peel - a ship Carpenter
Joseph is son of Thomas Hewson (the tidewaiter as above) + Cath Rob(b) - bapt German (ie Pee) 18170824 but had moved to Douglas with wife Margt Corris - boatbuilder living in a muti-family house in Church St Douglas

Thomas + Cath married Braddan 2 Sept 1798 - they were tenants in a house in Peel as seen by SSS May 1835 26 - [Peel]dated 15 Mar 1828;recites execution agt Philip Crellin(Kk German) re Bond + security of John Quane on a dwelling house in Peel - sd dwelling house + concerns auctioned for £30 2s to Thomas Shimmin(Mullen-e-clee, Kk Patrick) sd premises now in occp of Thomas Hewson (officer in H M Customs as tenant);
In 1846 directory Mr Thomas Hewson noted in Strand St (now shore Rd) Peel - he was dead by 1851 when widow Cath is living in Karran's Lane (just off the Quay) with an unmarried daughter

However Thomas in 1841 is indicated as Irish so good luck in tracing further back.
