Re: Eleanor Callow and John Caveen

When I wrote “she must have had a tough time, I should have written “Alice must have had a tough time.....”

amongst a long list of names:
Caveen Alice unm 24 domestic servant b Liverpool
Caveen Robert 2 weeks b Walton on the Hill.

The “tough time” relates to the fact that during her pregnancy she must have felt desolate. Her father and stepmother had retired to the IOM, her sisters Isabella and Elizabeth were both in Toxteth Park, married with very young children, and sister Jane was in domestic service. I haven’t discovered what happened to her 2 Manx-born brothers, John b 1837 and Robert b 1840. Perhaps the workhouse was Alice’s only option.

Alice’s sister Jane:

29 Beaumont St, Toxteth Park

Other online trees have decided that this Nov 1890 death was Elizabeth Caveen alias McLaughlan nee Hampton, but I suspect that the following burial / probate records were more likely to be Elizabeth nee Hampton’s:

CAVEEN, Elizabeth 78 Braddan 10 Mar 1889

This executor Thomas Caveen was b 1858 Castletown, son of Thomas Caveen and Mary Walker.
