I found your tree on Ancestry and I think that you’re right in your suggestion that James Kelly was the illegitimate son of Catherine Fargher and Thomas Kelly. All the other trees which suggest names for James’s parents are saying Thomas Kelly and Ann Shimmin---but that couple lived in Lonan and had all their children there, so I’d rule them out.
Discovering which Thomas Kelly was the father of Cath Fargher's child could prove to be impossible because there were so many possible candidates.
