Manx Genealogy

Cochrane/Caull families

Good evening,

My ancestors Alexander Cochrane and Catherine Caull came to the Isle of Man sometime around 1845- the start of the potato famine. It is claimed they came from Armagh.

No marriage has been found for them in either Ireland or on the Isle of Man. They had several children, baptised by Peter McGrath, who I assume was the Catholic priest:
1. Thomas, born c. 1844
2. Eleanor, bap 13 June 1846, sponsors James McVay and Ellen Caull
3. James, bap 4 Feb 1849, sponsors James Roney and Ellen Caul.
4. Margaret, bap 6 Aug 1851, sponsor Mary Ann Shannon
5. Eliza, bap 5 Apr 1854, sponsors Robert and Margaret Fisher.

All children except Thomas are accounted for- they married, some of them on the IoM, and to Manchester or Liverpool.
The family appears in the 1851-71 censuses. Alexander died in 1870 and Catherine Caull lived with her children to the mainland.

I would be grateful for any assistance on the origins of this family, and also what happened to Thomas.
