I am researching my son's family, and his great grandmother May Cowen would appear (from DNA links) to be the daughter of a man called John Cowin, and his wife Sarah May Baker? who were born in about 1850 on the Isle of Man (possibly Lonan). May was born in about 1883 and had a younger brother who later emigrated to Canada. May later married in London. According to family accounts, her parents died when she was quite young, and she was brought up by an aunt.
I'd be very interested to know of anyone who knows about the Cowins - of Lonan, but possibly of elsewhere on the Isle of Man.
