I don't think that is him. He is already in Canada in 1881 according to the census. In fact he gives his year of immigration to the US as 1882.
Intriguing though that there is another John Christian who was born on the Isle of Man entering the US. I am curious, do you know what year that was? It only gives a range of dates on the record you shared.
