I presume Canada used the same definitions as England for legal age at marriage which early in 19th C were 16 for Males and I think still 14 for females but this should be checked as to whether parental consent was needed for those under 21. Bishop Wilson in an attempt to prohibit marriage of minors in IoM effectively raised minimum age even with parental consent to 16 by requiring both parties be confirmed.
