Re: Wills microfiche
In Response To: Wills microfiche ()

Hi Roy,

The wills are not on fiche, but on film. FamilySearch.org (LDS) have put a lot of their films online, but the wills are not indexed on each scan so you need to wade through them looking for the correct year and parish (from Brian's index on Mannincloud), and then for the surname, until you find the right one.
Most films cover several years.

See: "Isle of Man - Probate records" on the FamilySearch.org "Catalog".
They may tell you to Login - it is free to join.

Or you may be able to get straight in through:
www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/results?count=20&placeId=79&query=%2Bplace%3A%22Isle%20of%20Man%22

See "Probate Records".

This is the list of Arch wills (which cover many more years filmed than Epis) and which ones have been filmed. Filmed ones have a camera icon; others have a picture of a microfilm. See:
www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/233934?availability=Family%20History%20Library

These Arch wills have all been scanned from 1627 to 1874.
