Re: Isabella Kelly
In Response To: Re: Isabella Kelly ()

Hi Tim,
On the US 1850 Census, living next (farm) to Decatur/Caten & Catherine Powell (nee Kelly), is a Thomas Kelly born Scotland (Catherine was also shown as born Scotland but we know she was born IOM) and wife Nancy (nee Sullivan). Thomas Kelley married Nancy Eachus on 17 June 1850 and three of her children from her previous marriage to Rufus H Eachus are shown on this Census with her. I suspect this Thomas is Catherine's Father, so he couldn't have died in 1847. Thomas and Nancy married just three months after the death of his first wife Catherine Quirk. I'm unable to find either Thomas or Nancy after this. I suspect Thomas is the son of John Kelly & Jane Corrin baptized In Patrick 24 February 1793. This would tie in with a family story about a Preacher named John Kelly in the US --- Thomas's son John became a Preacher. Thomas had a brother Robert Kelly who married Jane Lace and the family moved to Liverpool UK about the 1830's after losing the family home of Balladda near Peel IOM. I am a direct descendant of Robert. I suspect Catherine Quirk to be the daughter of Jonah Quirk & Isabell Quirk, baptized Patrick 23 May 1790 --- naming pattern seems to fit with this idea. Best wishes, Paul.
