depends very much on the parish, some parish records don't go further back that 1700, wills will get you back to c.1620 but there are gaps - land records will take you back to a little before 1600 but with gaps and not all families owned lands (tho most did) - the Christian family are fairly well researched,many Cannells had a Kirk Michael base for which Robert Cannell has put online many land records - I have transcribed/summarised many land records (on my CD) but still much to go.
