Gelencrutchery School from 1973 ? was a Dept. of Education Special School for those with moderate to severe learning disabilities in some of the buildings preiously used for the "Orphanage"Children's Home for all children needing looking after who walked down daily to be pupils at Murray's Road School.Knottfield on Wood bourne Road previously a Gentleman's large house became the HOME.

Some of the Glencrutchery children did sleep in a hostel there while others came by Taxi or Mini bus each day. For some children it was the first time they had been considered educable having lived in The Children's Villa at Ballamona Mental Hospital& been looked after by nurses. Some of the nurses moved too until they retired.MM
