Manx Genealogy

Kneen family of George b 1850 Douglas

******
I’ve been looking at possible parents for John Kneen, carter, b circa 1821 Marown. I wonder whether the 60yr old William Kneen in Margaret’s 1841 household could have been John’s paternal uncle.

I’ve pasted below all the census listings for these Kneens that I can find in 1841, 1851 and 1861.

Could this be the same John Kneen as the 30 yr old with Mgt Brean in 1851 / the 37 yr old unm Carter lodger in 1861 ? Perhaps he showed no aptitude for smithying and gave up/was sacked.

This is possibly the marriage of the Wm Kneen lodger age 21 in 1861:

Marital Status Single

Spouse's Father's Name Robt Eaten

Image shows WK car-man of James St, Douglas, father Thos Kneen, coachman,

The suggestion below for this Wm Kneen (son of a Thomas Kneen) in the censuses might be a red herring because this particular Thomas Kneen was an ostler/labourer. But apart from the discrepancy in occupation, this seems to fit---and also fits my theory (see later) on the family of Margaret Brean nee Kneen.
