Could it be that the 22 year old Able Seaman RE Kneale was the man ? The shipping record just gave him as an apprentice so if he was 16 then the age would be about right. Perhaps he worked the coast of Australia for a while then maybe went back home to UK?
will try to find a death/marriage record for him in Aust using that age of 22 years in 1861.
