Dear Gerard,
Many thanks for the information you provide; I can say that you are spot on - I've already been in contact with Dorset Museum, and have read Ann Davison's account of Joy's woes in her book Last Voyage (1952).

I would be very pleased indeed if you can lay your hands on those memoirs and photos; now I have your email address I propose we continue there, as this thread isn;t strictly Manx-related any more!

In case any others were wondering about this, the Manx connection is that the three sisters we've been discussing, Elizabeth Wood Muntz, Isabelle Hope Muntz, and Eslie Joy Muntz, all born at Toronto, were the grandchildren of Eugene Gustavus Muntz, born 1837 Handsworth Bham, whose elder brother John Devereux Muntz (b1826) settled on the Isle of Man. See earlier Muntz posts for more detail.

Of course, if any of you want to know more, just ask!

Lawrence
