One really good clue is in the 1900 census. John’s birth date is given as Nov 1848 or 1849 (last digit unclear) --- his age at last birthday is given as 51 (very clear), so assuming that he wasn’t pretending to be younger than his actual age, he was born in Nov 1848.
I’ve found 3 Manx Teare farmers in Minnesota, Henry b circa 1841, William b circa 1845 and John b circa 1848 (the one in Big Stone). I have no idea whether they’re connected (brothers) but they do coveniently match the Bride family of Thomas Teare and Elizabeth Christian who married in 1842:
