Bond St (sometimes Old Bond St) is actually in old Douglas and was a short street joining New Bond St to the Parade - Bond refers to bonded warehuse and the Parade was mostly reclaimed land on sea front approx where road is that forms the marshalling area for the sea-terminal freight traffic - that area of old Douglas was a slum by late 19th C - it looks like a boarding establishment catering to English some of whom were part of the printing trade attracted to Douglas by free postage of newspaper coupled with no advertising tax
