Re: Sharp
In Response To: Re: Sharp ()

There is an established Sharp(e) family in Douglas from mid 17th Century - a John Sharp (+ wife Jane Christian) had a son David who is noted in one deed as a mariner now of London who sold back his share of the house in Douglas left him by his mother to his father (summaries of these deeds are on my manxnotebook CD) but his father died a few years later (but too early to be the John of the presentment) - David would appear to have returned as his will is noted (unfortunately I don't as yet have a copy) but his mother noted in her will that he had a son(unnamed) - there is a later (1767) John Sharpe of Marown who also had an illegitimate child with Ann Corkill but 3 years later married her and had a large family in Santan/Malew - Sharp being a rare (non-Manx) name on Island I suspect there is some connection
