Re: old Malew Registers

A fascinating and amusing article in Frances' online Manx Notebook on Malew Parish Registers, originally written in Vii of the 1886 Notebook. It continues over 6 pages of anecdotes and interesting entries from the register late 1600s.

The entry I referred to about the operatic speech of a dying man is the burial of William Christian 3 Jan 1662[/63], Family Search Image 49.
"Mr. William Christian of Ronoldsway late "Rec'r" was Shot to Death at Hangoe Hill the 2th of January. He died most Penitently & most Curragiously, made a good End, prayed earnestly, made an excellent Speech, and the next day was buried in the Chancel of KK Malew". The article says this was "the famous Iliam Dhoan" and it quotes his exact speech.

All quite irrelevant but fun.
