In Response To: Re: Kneen family ()

never panic - found the key deed SSS May 1769 78 - dated 7 Mar 1769;recites that Henry Cubon(Cross-e-Cally, Rushen) decd morgaged for £150(Manx) to his bro-in-law Richard Creen[Kneen] all his interest in part of qtrland of Cross-e-Caley together with a field part of Ballakilowey called Glan-e-Christian under certain restrictions as mentioned in deed dated 25 Nov 1768 and whereas Robert Woods + wife Mary his next Heirs + Kin to whom sd premises lawfully decended have reached agreement with Richard Creen vizt Robt Woods + wife Mary als Cubbon sell for £156 (£6 clear) to Richard Creen all our right to the one eighth part of the qtrland of Cross-e-cally rent 6s 8d together with all buildings etc - Kneen to quit claim any right to the field part of Ballkilowey; Witt John Cannel x, Edwd Gawne

Note the name Creen used - Richard also known as Kneen in other records - there is obviously another mortgage to find (I havn't finished indexing the 20,000 tho I have finished the index (on my CD) to the 23,000 deeds pre 1847 - this I think narrows Richard to 2 families in Malew one of which als had a smith as head

The Cubbon connection can readily be tracked via land records - eg 1760 extended copy of 1704 Composition book

Ellen the widow of Jo Kegg now wife to Jo Cubbon for half of the other fourth part of the said quarter called Crotecalley and William, Jo, Ellen and Mary children of the said Jo Kegg for the other halfe of the said fourth part both of 13s 4d double rent compounded for in 1643 by the abovesaid William Corrin, fine then as above was 15s.Lives expired so to pay in proportion for this fourth part of a quarter 7s 6d
(full details on my CD + some explantion online at my website) - the 1/8th comes from the fact that Ellen had half a 4th part and must have passed this to her children by John Cubbon
