Re: Help! Weak Branch In Teare Family Tree

Hi Lyle,

Lucky you with the FHC down the road. You would like looking at the Andreas parish register on LDS film, if you haven’t done so already. (Early 1900s copy: "These Burials following were transcribed out of the old Registry, which was much defaced & torn".)

It often includes interesting comments, such as those in confirmations. Brian created an index, but many entries had additions similar to these:

There were also comments added to the parish register which are not on indexes. Unfortunately the gap in the parish register was not due to a missing volume which may eventually turn up, like the missing Braddan burials. The Andreas marriage register has: “Note, There were no Marriages writ in the Church Registry from 1685 to 1704, during Parson Xtian’s & Mr Curphy’s time in Kk Andrews till Mr Archdeacon Watleworth came to this Parish.”

Under 1704 the burial register has: “ This year the Revd Mr Samuel Watleworth came to Kk Andrews & the burials are as follow. Note: That P before each Name signifies that such died of the Small Pox this year.”

In 1685 15 burials were recorded, in 1686 only two were recorded, then three under 1701 (including John Tear bury’d January 30), none under 1702, one in 1703, then about 45 (mostly of smallpox in Aug., Sept., Oct.) in 1704 after Revd Watleworth’s arrival.

Regarding LDS films and court records you can see what has been copied on the LDS catalog online:
