Help! Weak Branch In Teare Family Tree

Making great progress on my IOM Teare Family Tree, thanks in great part to Frances and also Sue. I’m having one hang-up I’d like help on.

My Teare ancestors lived on and around Ballakinnag, Andreas. Here’s a brief synopsis of the documented chain I have thus far:

1. William McTeare (? – d. SEP 1637) + Jony Crenilt (? – 1633). Jony was heiress to Ballakinnag farm. William dropped the "Mc" by time of death. I have found obscure references to a McTeare family in Ballakinnag area around 1515, but need to explore much further.

2.William Teare (? – 8 NOV 1672) + Joney Kee (? – 26 NOV 1671). Perhaps interestingly buried as "Lord".

3. William Teare (? – btwn 1677 – 1699) + Elin Caltrope (?-post 1700)

4. William Teare (14 OCT 1677 – May 1747)

Yes, LOTS of “William Teare”s to keep up with! William III (Married to Elin Caltrope) is the “weak link” in my chain! I don’t have his birth/baptismal record, his marriage record to Elin Caltrope nor his death record.

I do know that Elin Caltrope was the daughter of Henry Caltrope & Ellin Garret; Henry had property in IOM and England. Her brother was a Martin Caltrope. She originally married Charles Christian on 7 DEC 1665 – but he disappears. I assume he died early in the marriage but don’t know for sure. This info all comes from the transcriptions of Archdeacon Wills 1628 through 1689 posted on Brian Lawson’s wonderful site!

Additionally, I know that a William Teare (IV) was born in 1677 - along with siblings Lettis Teare & Marjery Teare - as listed in Andreas parish records. Father – you guessed it – Wm Teare, no Mom listed. However, I was able to confirm that the mother was indeed Elin Caltrope from the Archdeacon Will data. (Your hunch was right, Frances!) Also, there is a mortgage in 1699 where William Tear (IV) – “son of William Teare and Elin Caltrope” – possessed a farm although mom still had widowhood. Hence, Elin still alive in 1699 but William III likely dead. But don't have III's death date/will.

There are two William Teare entries in Frances’ will summaries for Andreas between 1672 – 1699:

• TEAR, William: d 1 Mar 1680[1680/1];2 ch Wm + Bessie jt admrs - 2 aunts + uncle supvs;;wife alive ;inv noted in Arch reg

• TEAR, William: d 20 May 1785 (Typo??);sis (by mo's side) Christian IneNameer admx; inv in mo's will

So, I’m looking for thoughts and clues on William III and whatever happened to Elin Caltrope (may have re-married a man named Skinner, but conjecture.). If he's one of these two, (guessing 1685 one?) I'm hoping maybe a full JMO transcript or land records I don’t have, if available, would shed more light. Would love to make a conclusive connection to firm up tree.

Any thoughts appreciated! Many thanks in advance!

Best,
Lyle
