Re: Gertrude Isabel Brancker
In Response To: Re: Gertrude Isabel Brancker ()

Hi Felicity

This is a really tricky puzzle. Starting with the only census I’ve found Gertrude in so far:

1891
62 Loch Promenade, Douglas

Ancestry’s transcription:

Name Age
Fannie Cartiser 33
Bertha Cartiser 7
Gertrude Braucker 19
Ethel Denny 15
Annie Cain 23

notes
FC/head/wid/33/living on own means/b Liverpool
GB /niece/single/no occupation given/b Liverpool
(Frances Isabel Cartisser was one of the witnesses at the 1892 marriage of Gertrude to William Middleton Burton.)
***********
Now searching for clues from Gertrude’s aunt. In 1881 she was newly married:

1881
90 Westbourne St, Everton, LP

Ancestry’s transcription:

Name Age
Fanny Cartisser 25
Charles G. Cartisser

notes:
FC wife/mar/steamship 2nd officer’s wife/b Ramsey IOM
CGC son 3 months b LP

*******

So was Fanny/Fannie born in IOM (81) or Liverpool (91) ? And does this put a question mark over the “LP birthplace” of Gertrude in the 1891 census ?

*******

That’s as far as I can get. My best guess is that Gertrude’s mother may turn out to be Fannie’s sister.
