Re: Elizabeth Wattleworth John Sayle

Jan,
You posted, on this board, a similar query on Monday 4th July 2011.and received answers!
By now you may/should know a lot more about the name Wattleworth as it is also well covered by Google
It has also been discussed on other forums.
In manxnotebook (from Manx Families by A.W. Moore) the early manx group is well documented.
For background you can also refer to the book Ramsey 1600-1800 pages 117,122,123 and 132.
I will not go into other postings

Our interest is in the name Corlett and from some of our old files we can tell you the following:-
Margaret the daughter of Edward Corlett and Margaret Christian did marry to:-
William Wattleworth on 26th April 1739, recorded under Lonan/Onchan.
There was issue from the following year which we did not research.
This was her first marriage as she later married as a widow to Jon Christian on 13th May 1746 in Maughold.
There was issue.
We believe she died aged 48 and was buried on 19th June 1768 at Maughold.

As in today successful business men in a small town often have prominent positions
Their children would often intermarry with like kind
Such was the case with Corlett, Wattleworth and Christian.
By the early 1940s although under different ownership the Wattleworth business in Ramsey still bore the name.
These premises where opposite the Courts/Police Station (now the Post Office) in Parliament Street.
At that time Wattleworths building consisted of a ground floor bakery with shop outlet at the front
Upstairs was a well appointed café/tea room serving the produce.
It was served by a dumb waiter which was of great interest to the local girl Dorothy Corlett who married me.
Peter.
