most Manx spelling was started to be standardised in early 18th Cent with publication of Prayer Book + Bible thus refletc current 18th C English pronounciation - Mylroij seems to have a diphong 'oi' followed by a short vowel (generally 'i' but also 'e') - writing double 'i' at end of a word is awkward and the use of the trailing 'j' (really an 'i') was very common (just look at all accounts in various rolls)
