Many thanks for that, my grandfather would have been too old for active service in WW2, he was in the South Staffs territorials. What puzzles me is that my mother, her three sisters and my grandmother all took a holiday on the IOM in 1942/43 when the island was being used for internees, the photo i have is of my mothers sister sitting in a deckchair outside the guest house. I have a feeling that they all went over there to see my grandfather
