Re: Wills
In Response To: Re: Wills ()

Thank you Sue. This is helpful.

I remembered something that Frances said that hope I could get both your thoughts on. Frances back on 8 February 2014, you helped me find the marriage record of Thomas Corkill and Elizabeth Lewin in 1800. Thomas is the son of William Corkill (b 1743) and Margaret Faragher. Thomas' father William is the son of the William Corkill (husband of Alice Cannon) who we are looking for. Now, you said to me that on the marriage record of Thomas Corkill and Elizabeth Lewin, which took place in Kirk German, it was "noted that they were both from Douglas and married by special license - usually this is either high status wanting marriage In their home or at Bishops court, or a mechanism to have a Secret marriage away from family." You also noted that the William Corkill in question who bought property on Sand Street in 1741 did so with what was not a modest amount of money, especially for a man listed as a laborer. The question then is should I be looking elsewhere for his birth record (I.e. German)? Could the William I am searching for be a son of a wealthier Corkill family of another town?
