if you are happy with that identification then you can easily trace back the Cannells prob back to 1650 or earlier via wills, deeds land records etc - there are a couple of marriage contracts one for Thomas + joney - (deed ref NSS May 1796 13 but used as will in Episcopal wills and transcribed on Brian Lawson site (wherever that now resides)
Thomas was son of Daniel + Cath Kaighin - that daniel was son of Daniel + Cath Corlet (Marr contract Old Michael deeds #13) - before that trace back via land records (see www.manxnotebook.com) + www.manxmanorialroll.com
