Amongst my Dad's diaries we found a newspaper cutting about Bugler Elliot who drowned in the Sulby River in 1914 whilst camping with the Manx Volunteers. Private A Shimmin tried to save him but was unsuccessful.
I am interested in Pte Shimmin as my grandmother was a Shimmin. It seems the young soldier was son of the auctioneer TW Shimmin.
I wonder if anyone has any information on this family please?
