Wm Radcliffe's letter 14 Oct 1928 "…It was a surprise to read that "Johnny Jem" married a Scarff, a family for the most part associated with Laxey. With regard to his 3rd "Elizabeth Christian" I think this must have been the woman known as "Lizzie Johny Jem" whom I used to hear my mother speak of very strongly (I ought to explain that I was brought up by my mother to entertain some strong prejudices against my father's relations). I never knew this Lizzie, I don't think she ever married though said to be a very beautiful woman, but she had an illigitimate son John James Goldsmith (his father was a leading Ramsey merchant of his time) a very worthy fellow who became one of the leading Captains sailing out of Liverpool and thought a great deal of his mother. She kept house for him in Liverpool and died there. Captain Goldsmith died over 20 yrs ago.
