Helena Susannah Scarffe was known as "Lena"; she was an aunt of my grandmother Jemetta Helena Fayle [1887-1977], who married John Henry Lawson in 1906. Her mother Jemetta Elizabeth Fayle als Scarffe [my gt grandmother] was a sister of Lena [as shown in 1911]. I have searched for a birth of Edna May both in the IoM and in England, but so far no success - Cath, how did you obtain her birth date?
The evidence I have is not via certificates, but from a document prepared in 1975 by my father and his mother Jemetta Helena Stowell. They had been contacted by a solicitor dealing with the Estate of Esmond Scarffe [1909-75], who was a nephew of Susannah Helena [his father was Isaac Cornelius Scarffe]. The solicitor was trying to establish the closest living relatives of Esmond, who died in a traffic accident on Captain's Hill in Laxey. The document claims Helena Susanna had two children [no husband named] and Edna had "4 in family" again no husband named.
I was not aware that Edna had married in 1963; I notice that James Sefton Dent married again in 1973 to Elizabeth Kewley.
